Marginal Wood Fern (Dryopteris marginalis)

from $5.00

As with all of the other wood ferns, Marginal Wood Fern has a delicate, graceful look. Additionally, having it in your garden has an added benefit for the winter. It is an evergreen fern!

Marginal Wood Fern gets its name from the sori (packets of spores) being on the edge (margin) of the leaflets. This is the way to tell this fern apart from other wood ferns (Dryopteris species).

This fern is native throughout much of the state of Michigan and is found in wet woods, especially those that have rocky soil. It grows from 1-3.5 feet high and has scales on the stem.

To grow it in your home garden, you will need soil that has a lot of organic material that also drains well. You also need a place that can retain humidity, away from the winds.
